VAMO 2026 will be held on April 14, 2026 from 3:15-6:45pm at Iroquois Middle School in Niskayuna, NY.
Competition Schedule and Format
Schedule:
3:15-4:00pm: Introduction and Instructions
4:00-4:30pm: Individual Round
4:45-5:35pm: Team Round
5:45-6:15pm: Pizza
6:15-6:45pm: Closing Ceremony
Individual Round:
- The Individual Round features 2 divisions.
Division A: Problems geared to 8th graders, but anyone who's had experience with math outside of classes, or is looking for a challenge can also participate!
Division B: Problems geared to 6th graders and people who are new to the VAMO. Open to all!
- Participants have 30 minutes to complete 15 problems.
- Each problem is worth 1 point, for a maximum of 15 points.
Team Round:
- Each team can consist of 2-4 people from any school and any divisions of the Individual Round.
- Teams have 50 minutes to complete 20 problems. The Team Round does not feature divisons.
- The last 5 minutes of the round, teams recieve 3 estimation problems worth 1 point each. The 3 teams that are closest to the answer recieves the point.
- Each problem is worth 1 point, for a maximum of 28 points.
Scoring:
Team scores are calculated by summing the average score of the team members'
Individual Round with the team's Team Round score.
